A Continuum of Progress: Presenting the Top80 People in Sickle Cell Research 2026
As we publish the 2026 Top 80, we reflect on progress in sickle cell disorder as a long continuum of effort, spanning generations. The care we see today reflects decades of clinical insight, scientific persistence, patient advocacy and lived experience gradually coming into focus.
Many of the improvements shaping care now were set in motion long before they became visible, driven by individuals who worked steadily, quietly behind the scenes and often without recognition, to advance scientific understanding and strengthen the foundations of Sickle Cell care.
This year’s Top 80 highlights a community that is increasingly connected and collaborative. It brings together patients, carers, clinicians, researchers and advocates from across regions and disciplines, all reflecting a shared understanding that meaningful progress depends on integrating lived experience with clinical and scientific insight. Together, these voices are shaping a more informed and patient-centred approach to care.
We extend our sincere thanks to everyone featured in the 2026 Top 80, as well as to those whose contributions continue beyond public recognition. Your work continues to shape progress in sickle cell disorder and supports a future of care that is more informed, equitable and grounded in real experience.
